“Take off my mask, David? Are you insane? This is my only protection! I have relied on this strategy for, well, as long as I can remember!”
Admitting to feelings of inadequacy can open the door to acceptance, learning, change, and healing.
It is about stating things as they really are and not being influenced by the fear of being transparent, seen, and/or perceived as weak or incompetent.
Opening the Door to Change
I invite you to chat with me. Book a time on my calendar.
Take a chance and tell me what is bothering you and why you think you need to keep hiding.
My experience is that when you crack open the door of change with a competent guide, magic starts to happen. One caveat … it is not thinking about doing it, it is doing it.
You need to do something different in order to get new data, in order to make an assessment if this works for you or not. You know it’s true!
Practice Makes Perfect: Transferable Skills
You have transferable skills.
I could teach you how to change a tyre on a bicycle. You can practice it and become proficient at it. You could then do it like you always knew how to. You could even teach others!
The same goes with behavior change:
- Learn to be transparent in a safe environment.
- Be curious.
- Learn that it’s OK to be open and a little vulnerable.
You didn’t die, and no one came to make your life more difficult. You lived. It felt kind of good. It was something new to you. Maybe some anxiety came up, but nothing bad happened. Overall, a good experience. Energy arises.
What Coaching Looks Like
This is what my coaching is: a safe place for you to slowly, slowly share your stuff, get things off your chest, and experience what it’s like to be accepted and known more deeply. Access to change and growth follows.
Scary, I know. -->insert scared emoji here<-- 😊
Consider These Points:
- You were unwilling or unable to be authentic in a relationship or relationships.
- You didn’t trust anyone enough to tell them who you are, what you’re doing, or what you’ve done.
- You present to the world a fantasy of yourself instead.
- Happiness hasn’t found you because the person in the fantasy isn't you.
- You had needs as a child, and caregivers who could not possibly have met them.
