I’ve mentioned this elsewhere: Johann Hari’s Stolen Focus speaks loudly to the distraction we live with.
I believe we humans simply do not have the capacity to take onboard all that is on offer in our modern world. That in itself creates an overwhelm and a situation where we try and run from the overwhelm with more distraction and resulting overwhelm … a vicious circle.
Get Off the Mousewheel and Find Clarity
Have you ever rowed a boat on quiet waters? A wonderful experience.
If you have, I am sure you have also experienced the peace that comes after you stop rowing and drift.
This is what I am talking about.
Sit and listen to the stillness.
When we unplug and unsubscribe from the busyness of life, it’s almost like a pause that allows a deep breath to come naturally. Like a long-overdue sigh.
We can sit in that space after the sigh. We can bathe in it.
And if we notice the moment of peace and regulation that arises, we can practice it as part of our daily ritual and note what comes up.
Waking Up from Autopilot
It will become obvious that we have been attending to things that do not lead to satisfaction and real joy. It’s likely we’ve been on autopilot to please others, or living up to expectations put on us by ourselves and others.
And little-by-little, our lives go by. One day of living the old way melds into the next.
Pause the oars and let the boat drift.
Listen to the sounds of the water and the wind. Note the warmth of the sun on your skin, the bird sounds. Hear the peace.
From Clarity to Wise Action
If you’ve been on a path of desperation or destruction … of living out of alignment … it’s time to redirect your efforts and energies toward clarity.
With clarity comes direction, then energy becomes available to take wise action. You can’t not.
Seeing clearly is one of the steps of repair and renewal after infidelity. Let’s talk about this. It’s easier than you think. There is a process. You don’t have to make it up yourself.
