I’m Frustrated: The Raw Truth About Betrayal, Maturity, and What Comes Next
In other posts I've refined them for structure and tone, but not so much this time.
This is my "lightly" edited voice. This is the language I use in my coaching sessions when I am sitting across from a man who is blowing up his life, talking about his wife who is trying to survive the detonation. The devastation.
To the Unfaithful Partner:
You fucked up. Big time.
I get it. Right now you are scared, frustrated, anxious, angry, resentful, avoidant, confused, and shocked that your double life finally caught up with you.
To the Betrayed Partner:
He fucked up big time.
I get it. You are feeling all of the above, plus total disbelief that this has happened (at all) and happened to you. Maybe this isn't even the first time. (I internally winced as I typed that).
You fluctuate between feeling friggin’ furious, deeply sad, totally numb, and despair.
And the questions that come up... round and round, and randomly, at any time:
- What do I do or what do I do next?
- What about the kids? What about our future? Everything now is so unstable.
- Should I pack his bags and kick him out or leave myself?
- Is this going to happen again?
- Will I ever be able to trust a single word out of his mouth again? Out of any man's?
What a total fucking arsehole. Prick of the highest magnitude. Who the hell does he think he is? I give him my all. I wash his underpants and iron his shirts, raise HIS children... and this is how he treats me?
Every time you try to knock the reality of your pain into his skull, he completely fails you. He gets defensive, explains his shit, minimizes, stonewalls, cries, gets angry, freezes, or storms out of the room.
If you’ve been at this for a while, you know this loop all too well. For the newly betrayed: I am sorry to break the news to you, but this is the reality for most couples after Discovery Day.
The Spectrum of Betrayal
Naming the most common forms of betrayal I hear every day:
- Lying and lying by omission
- Pornography and "Not-Porn" (sexualized Instagram accounts, social media thirst traps)
- OnlyFans, direct messaging, and secret online contact
- Dating apps, hook-up apps, and flirting in-person with potential partners
- Workplace affairs (emotional or physical)
- Massage parlors, escorts, and sex workers
- Using alcohol or drugs as a gateway to act out sexually
And yes, it's perfectly reasonable to be furious.
How He Got Here (And Why It Isn't an Excuse)
Here’s the truth as I see it: The unfaithful man has compartmentalized his coping strategies since childhood.
Usually, his early environment lacked relational safety, or his caregivers had their own unresolved trauma and passed it on. As a child, he devised secret strategies to soothe himself—masturbation, fantasy, and escaping into alternate worlds where he avoided, "managed out" or masked uncomfortable feelings that he was not mature enough to deal with.
That child grew up physically, but not emotionally. He may be 50, but acts like a 5-year-old.
When adult life-stressors accumulate—career pressures, financial demands, marriage, parenting—the culture tells him he "has to have his shit together", perform, produce, look successful, and maintain status. With a smile or stiff upper-lip.
- The result: Massive internal stress.
- The coping mechanism: Secret escape, angering, grumpiness, despondency.
- The outcome: Secrecy, shame, guilt, more stress, and deeper isolation.
Then you find out. BOOM. Your life has changed forever.
This isn't an addiction to a substance that can be easily seen and named. It is visceral, deeply personal, and felt in your core. You feel as though you have been run over by a massive bus, then left alone to make sense of it all.
And what is he doing while you suffer and plead for answers and understanding?
Fuck all. Crying about his poor childhood. His mummy-wounds. His daddy-wounds. His “I-was-bullied” wounds. His “I’m-a-piece-of-shit” wallowing.
Great. But that doesn’t help you at all.
You tell him over and over what you need, and he doesn’t get it. Raging, crying, pleading, ignoring him, throwing him out of the house, cutting off access to the kids... He still sits there paralyzed in his own feelings, fear, confusion and story. Maybe he is the angering type and lashes out at you in his inability to hold your pain.
How I Step In
I am here to help both of you, because I DO GET IT.
He needs someone to give him a figurative clip over the head with a 2x4. He needs to be called out on his shit, clear his head, and be guided back TO you, TO the family, and TO his obligations as a husband, father, and decent human being.
Most men were never really fully present in the first place. Before they met you, I mean. They attempted to project an image of being attentive and well put together, but were running a different program deep down. Not intentionally. It was code programmed in childhood. My guess is they wanted to impress you, get into your pants, "pretend normal" and live happily ever after.
I know you don't want to hear this and it doesn't help your pain.
My Coaching Helps Him to Help You
IF you are able to, send him to me.
IF you or your children are in serious, immediate danger, get out to safety as soon as is possible.
The ball is in YOUR court. This is your one life. Do not let him take the reins of recovery without guidance.
I will expect him to immediately focus on two things:
- Keeping you SAFE as a priority. Even safe from himself. It means proactively establishing rules to a) do no further damage, and b) turning his life around to enable him to clean up the mess.
- Attending to his own childhood deficits separately. This is HIS job, not yours.
I focus on reprogramming 5 core emotional experiences failed to establish "well enough" in childhood:
- A sense of felt safety
- A sense of being seen and known
- The experience of felt comfort
- A sense of being valued
- A sense of support
Yes, I realize these are what you want and need too.
I will be helping him with these things; he in turn, will provide these for you. As I help him build these capacities consistently and reliably, he learns how to provide them for YOU consistently and reliably.
What "Guy 2.0" Looks Like
When a man stops hiding and takes action on cleaning up the mess, a positive feedback loop starts.
He stops running from uncomfortable conversations. He steps up because he feels the strength of his own character, possibly for the first time. He becomes grounded, unflappable, and available—for you, for your children, and for himself.
You get truthful answers so you can make real, informed decisions about your future. And you retain the right to stay or leave at ANY TIME. Regardless of your decision, he still has to fix his shit.
Why I am Frustrated
I am frustrated because the world has gone completely mental. We live in a hyper-sexualized culture that actively sabotages men, women, and families. From sexualized billboards to algorithmic traps, the environment is designed to keep men distracted, dysregulated and detached.
I am frustrated because I cannot reach through this screen, grab him by the collar, and pull him into my office myself, slap him about the head and say, "Open your friggin' eyes man. This is what happened, this is the situation, and this is the solution. Now do it."
This may sound grandiose but I'd like to do a download from my mind to his.
I need your help—because I know he isn't proactively looking for help on his own.
Stop the Loop of Dysregulation. Let's Get to Work.
Whether you are in a short-term relationship, have young kids, or have invested decades and built a business together—what is at stake here is your life.
Help me to help him help you. I know you are ready to stop the endless cycle of minimization and panic. Step him into a private, no-BS space and let me work on him. He needs to clear out the bullshit.
